NYC Councilman Ben Kallos wants “Big Belly” solar-powered trash compactors for the city

Kallos has in mind “Big Belly” units that use solar power to crush the contents inside. The city currently has about 850 of them throughout the five boroughs, according to the Sanitation Department, maintained by both the agency and local business improvement districts. There are a number of Big Belly compactors inside city parks, too.
