GLENCOE, IL — Interested in saving both money and the planet? The Glencoe Sustainability Task Force and the Glencoe Public Library are co-sponsoring a Wednesday evening webinar detailing the community’s partnership with MC Squared Energy Services, a large-scale community solar project.

The Village of Glencoe and six other North Shore communities have joined the CS2 Residential Community Solar Program, which enables residents and businesses to save 20% on their monthly electricity charges through solar generation credits. Because these subscription credits help finance and construct small solar facilities, participants are able to save money and contribute to renewable energy without having to install any solar panels.
Essentially, subscribers do not receive electricity directly from the community solar project. Instead, a solar farm delivers power into the Commonwealth Edison grid, and the subscribers are credited for the value of that power.
The subscriptions are offered on a rolling basis and the facilities are built and added to the grid. Interested residents must join a waitlist before enrolling. As projects are completed, residents on the waitlist will be contacted and offered the opportunity to complete the process.
There are no credit checks, enrollment fees, or termination fees to start or end the subscription.
More and more solar facilities are being built to satisfy the Illinois Future Energy Jobs Act, which mandates that Commonwealth Edison and Ameren Illinois must purchase 25% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
