Officials discuss climate change goals for Wisconsin
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Local groups are calling on lawmakers to invest in more clean transportation.
Wisconsin Health Professionals for Climate Action hosted the online event.
Members are calling for more federal investment.
The group says transportation is the largest source of pollution in Wisconsin.
It’s pushing for a larger electric vehicle market, electric transit and school busses, the installation of charging stations, and funding for research and manufacturing of electric vehicles.
“The real savings will be for the health of our communities and reducing the pollution related to climate change … Replacing all of America’s school and transit busses with electric busses could avoid an average of 7.3 million tons of greenhouse gas pollution each year,” says Wisconsin Environment State Director.
Electric busses are starting to roll out in La Crosse and other Wisconsin communities, but leaders hope to speed up the process.
