The DC Fast Charging units can fully charge an electric vehicle in about 30 minutes to an hour.
TIFFIN, Ohio — Though snow was on the ground Wednesday morning, the city of Tiffin has gotten a little more green.
The city of Tiffin has installed 2 DC Fast Charging units for electric vehicles in their city parking lot 7, just across the street from the courthouse.
The city used a $150,000 grant from AEP to purchase and install them.
These chargers are a part of the ChargePoint network, and can now be found on the ChargePoint App.
And Mayor Aaron Montz said even though they hadn’t announced the chargers were up and running yet, plenty of visitors have already found and used the chargers through the app.
“And it’s really surprising how often they’re being used already without any kind of fanfare or announcements of these,” Montz said.
And along with using the ChargePoint app on your phone to pay for your vehicle charging, you’ll also get a notification when it’s fully charged.
Mayor Montz said it should cost between $5 and $10 to fully charge a partially depleted battery in about 30 minutes.
And the hope is these new charging stations can be used as a proof of concept on how smaller, rural communities can use this new tech to draw in new visitors to their town.
“And having the ‘Discover Tiffin’ experience as we like to call it,” Montz said. “They’re coming to our downtown, discovering that this is a fun little community. And the goal is to use these chargers, as well as many other events that we have, to continue to bring people to Tiffin, Ohio.”
