ORLANDO, Florida: The Disney World theme park has announced that it will undergo infrastructure upgrades to allow the park to receive 40 percent of its energy from solar power.
Writing on its blog, Disney Parks said that two new arrays of solar panels are being installed at Disney World in Florida. The solar systems are being developed with local utility partners in central Florida.
Coming online within two years, the solar panels are expected to produce enough energy to supply the park with 40 percent of its annual power consumption.
The current solar panel array is designed in the shape Mickey Mouse.
Disney also announced solar power projects for Disneyland Paris and their Castaway Cay, which is to receive 70 percent of their of its energy through the sun’s light. Castaway Cay is a private island owned by Disney Cruise Line.
Solar canopies will be installed at Disneyland Paris, providing cover for some 9,500 vehicles in guest parking lots.
